Aroma Lovely

Hand Illustrated Candle Packaging

hese package designs were created for Aroma Lovely candles for their artisan collection and their fall collection. The artisan collection uses pen and ink drawings I created of all the ingredients in each candle. The fall collection uses pen and ink and watercolor to show each ingredient in the scent. Each scent has a unique label. I have created illustrations for the simple candle line, Christmas candle line, Wax Barks, and wax melts. These designs are in the process of becoming glass etchings on the candles.

These pieces required a lot of research. I started by compiling a list of all the ingredients in each scent and picked the top 6 most important. I then looked for any repeating ingredients and narrowed down the list. After that, I did small sketches of each one to show the client and to have a guide for my larger pieces. Then I began drawing each on mixed media paper and inked them with Indian ink and a dip pen. The fall scents had watercolor done first then Indian ink added on top. Once the inking was done and dried, I added washes of ink to add depth and detail. Then I worked with the client to scan, edit, and arrange the pieces according to the scent in a pattern around the candle. After that, we worked on printing and making sure the print quality was correct. I have worked on many other projects with Aroma Lovely that worked in a similar process.

Below you can see some of my sketches, process, and close ups from this project.
